Marney's Pumpkin Mix-Up Children's Book by Jane Rushmore

Written by Jane Rushmore and beautifully illustrated by Sally Darby, Marney's Pumpkin Mix-Up is a Halloween follow up to Marney's Mix-Up. This story celebrates team work and cooperation through Marney's search for some pumpkin seeds.

When Marney spots the biggest pumpkin in the park, he is eager to to and search for the seeds inside. He doesn't want to help the other squirrels gather nuts and acorns and doesn't listen to Riley's advice. Things may not be all that they seem with this pumpkin - might this be another of Marney's mix-ups?

With a fun story, large colourful illustrations and even a little recipe in the bag, this book is a lovely story for little ones - especially at bed time. It teaches a nice little lesson of listening to advice and the Spiced Pumpkin Loaf is a great recipe to keep you busy on a rainy afternoon.

What a lovely autumn book!

What a lovely autumn themed childrens book!
This book was read by my 7 year old to his little sister who is 2, and they both absolutely loved it!

Such beautiful colourful illustrations throughout the book really kept them engaged.

They loved marneys mixup, getting a cat mixed up with a pumpkin! If only he had listened to his friends Instead of rushing and thinking he could do everything himself!
Such a fun way to explain to children about teamwork and listening.

This booked started lost of questions about the pumpkin seeds and how we use them to grow more pumpkins, but also eat too. Matthew (7 year old) then asked about they the anaimals hide food in the winter and got us talking for ages about hibernation.

We also loved the yummy cake recipe at the end, we are going to save it for when we carve our pumpkins and use the leftovers to make a pumpkin loaf!
What a lovely book!

Perfect autumn picture book

This is a lovely story about determination, problem solving, accepting help for bigger tasks and listening a little better. My littlest is almost 17 months and he definitely enjoyed this story the most. He found the noises very funny whilst I was reading, and copied them all. My older two enjoyed the book too, as they understood the message behind it which prompted lots of conversations about their own experiences. They also found the ending funny. That type of straight forward humour is right up their street. I personally loved all the seasonal illustrationd and colours throughout the book. It's definitely a must read coming into Autumn.

A lovely message!

We love Autumn in our house and we can’t get enough seasonal books. This is a lovely picture book that tells the story of a busy squirrel who learns the value of teamwork and working together.
I read it to my almost three year old who loved guessing why the ‘pumpkin’ was making noises and really enjoyed the beautiful, colourful pictures. I think he will appreciate the moral of the story more by next autumn. I liked the fact that dialogue is in bold which serves as a little reminder to do the right voices at the right time when reading aloud!
Overall a really beautiful seasonal read.

A seasonal tale with a positive message that everyone can relate to

I just love a seasonal story and this one delivers all the autumnal vibes I was looking for! This is a heart warming story of Marney the squirrel; he often makes mistakes but is not afraid to learn for them. In this story that is tough jobs can be made easier if you listen to others and let people help you. I read this to my children, four and eight. It led to an interesting conversation about seeds, what they were and their purpose. My eldest recalled collecting pumpkin seeds and toasting them last year. The spiced pumpkin loaf recipe was a lovely surprise at the end and will provide this years pumpkin culinary challenge!

Wonderful!

A lovely book to share with my three little ones aged 7, 6 and 2; they all enjoyed it. The illustrations are fab, colourful and striking whilst capturing the imagination straight away. My 6 year old was straight in with questions before we'd even started the book. Would make a lovely gift.
