a great book for self love and the impact we can have on impressionable minds

This book, for me, was as much for parents and guardians as it was for little people. Mira is a little girl who feels different. She so wants the straight, sleek hair of her mama, but hers instead is curly. We see how this little girl battles with trying to change, and in the end, it is the mama who changes, letting little Mira see that her mama, who she thinks is beautiful, is beautiful with her curls too.
I loved that this book opened up all sorts of conversations with my little one (4.5 years) about how other people can impact how we feel about ourselves, how differences are beautiful, but it can take a strong will to go against societal norms (we didn't phrase it quite like that). We loved that the mama accepted her own natural beauty through the eyes of her little person, who in turn then saw the beauty in herself. My 2.5-year-old, on the other hand, liked the drawings, especially scissors (which he's obsessed with at the moment) and chickens. The illustrations are lovely and vivid, which meant I could sit down with both my little ones and read together.

Curls are beautiful

Lovely story about Mia learning to accept and love her hair. It would be great if she'd realised they were beautiful herself before finding out her Mum hid them. Raised lots of questions here though which was fab as a talking prompt.

A beautiful story.

This is a beautiful story of a young girl learning to love her hair through her mother. One star off as I would prefer more emphasis on self love and that curls are beautiful rather than the realisation coming from someone else.
