The Whale Watchers by Dougie Poynter and Amberin Huq

Written by Dougie Poynter and illustrated by Amberin Huq, 'The Whale Watchers' is a 224 page children's chapter book about the importance of whales to our planet. Join the Whale Watchers on an exciting summer adventure that teaches children the, widely unknown, significance of whales in the fight against climate change.

Commissioned by BRITA to raise funds for their partner WDC (Whale and Dolphin Conservation), the leading charity dedicated to protecting whales and dolphins, this book also explains great ways to help protect whales and the environment. Some of these ideas include, using less single-use plastics and reusing old or more sustainable materials.

With detailed chapters and small, colourful illustrations, this book is great light reading for children aged 7 and up.

Brilliant!

When I heard about the new chapter book from Owletpress, The Whale Watchers I knew it would be right up our street! Written by Dougie Poynter (of McFly) and illustrations by Amberin Huq - it’s recommended for 7 years +. An adventure story with lots of references to how we can all help protect our planet and oceans and the important role whales play in helping combat climate change. With so many kids (and adults!) with climate anxiety it helps validate these feelings and give ideas on ways we can all feel like we can make a difference. There’s a fab science section at the end and glossary to help explain the biology in the book, career recommendations and interviews with real whale watchers. Love that a percentage of the sales go to support Whale and Dolphin Conservation. A really good read and well thought out book, highly recommended

What a brilliantly written book! Like many of us, young Finn is frustrated and suffering from some eco- anxiety. A trip to Scotland with his marine biologist mum puts him right into the thick of Whale and dolphin conservation where he can truly see the good in the choices his mum makes for their family.

Super informative without being preachy, a great conflict free story and a perfect read for both young and old alike.

The story itself is 170 pages but a decent chunk of book at the back is full of career options, helpful things you can do, facts about how beneficial whales are both in their life and death and informations on the impact humans have.

I'm super impressed with this book and will be buying a copy to gift to our school library so more people can read this.
