Me, in the Middle by Annette Demetriou and Angela Mayers

Written by Annette Demetriou and illustrated by Angela Mayers, 'Me, in the Middle' is a 32 page children's story book about family trees and self-identity.

While exploring family trees in a school lesson, little Georgie finds that she is uncertain over the origins of her family. She discovers that her parents came together from separate nations and her family tree branches out wide, with each individual having different features and cultures. This story helps to highlight the beauty of different cultures and how we each share the same earth. It offers children a great chance to explore their own family tree and discover their own roots. Owlet Press have even added a separate page to draw your own family tree in the back of the book.

What a lovely read

This is a wonderful story about a little girl who is learning all about family in school. It prompted lovely talk between myself and Matthew, talking about our family tree and heritage.
The story describes each family as different trees, and they all grow from the same earth, which is such a lovely message.
We love that it touched base with different races, adoption and how diverse and special each family is. It’s beautifully written and has just truly lovely illustrations. We also loved that it had an interactive page at the end that you can add your own family tree

Wonderful story

We loved this book! Teds loved it SO much he took it into school for his teacher to read out loud to the class.

It’s a lovely story celebrating families and how diverse and unique they are; and how each and every one is as special as the next.

It includes lots of different families like own children, adoption, different nationalities, cultures, same sex parents and mixed race.

I love how the class compares the childrens family tree to different tree species in the park. All their distinguishing features representing the twists and turns of family frees and how all roots being from the same Earth.

A story with such a wonderful and important message and beautiful illustrations

This is the book I never knew I'd been looking for

Beautifully written, beautifully illustrated and thought provoking. This is such a gorgeous and important book. One which will help start conversations with your little people that are so important. I love the story and whilst I think the theme is a little much for my nearly 4 year old to understand, he does ask questions and we point out important parts together. I think that this book will grow with us and it means more every time we read it. So pleased it is in our collection.

Lovely book and illustration.

My 7 year old and I enjoyed reading this book together. It great for opening discussion about where your own family tree and heritage. Illustrations are lovely and we liked seeing the different families in the trees and of course the chance to start our own family tree at the back.
