Ideas for use:
Descaling - Dilute 1 - 2 tablespoons of citric acid in 1L of cold water and use this solution to descale coffee machines, kettles, cups, taps, showerheads etc. Rinse with clean water afterwards.
Remove limescale from your washing machine - Put 6 - 8 tablespoons of acid in the drum and run on a hot cycle (90°C)
Toilet bowl cleaner - pour half the bag into your toilet and leave overnight, and clean with a toilet brush
General household cleaning - replace vinegar as a cleaner throughout your home.

Every week I chuck some of this in my toilet, leave it for 10 mins while I clean the rest of the bathroom, then scrub with the toilet brush. Stains completely gone!
Don't listen to the instructions - it doesn't need to soak for hours and it doesn't take half the bag at a time, I probably use about 2 tablespoons at once.
Lots of people know about adding vinegar or lemon juice to the kettle to get rid of limescale - this does the same (acid!) but without leaving all the weird taste and needing half a dozen rinses before the water is useable for drinks. Also good to dissolve in hot water and keep in a spray bottle for cleaning the shower screen. Tip some neat into the toilet bowl, leave a few minutes, give a little scrub and follow with hot water (even better is the acidy water used to clean the kettle!) best thing I've found for removing limescale stains from the toilet
I like the idea of changing to natural products for cleaning the house. I started with this bag of citric acid. I have used it as a toilet cleaner - which it was very effective for when left to soak for a few hours. And also to get rid of all the limescale on the shower head when scrubbed with it and soaked in a bit mixed with warm water. It’s now a staple of my cleaning cupboard.
I bought this citric acid to try and be more be a bit more eco-friendly in terms of the plastic free packaging and natural ingredients.
So far, I've only used it to clean the toilet. The instructions suggest pouring half a bag down the toilet and leaving it overnight. I thought the quantity required was a bit excessive, given that I'd only ordered one bag. I put significantly less in the toilet - probably about quarter of the bag. In the end, I only left it in the toilet for a few hours because I decided to do it in the daytime whilst the kids were at school. Given that I didn't follow the instructions directly, I was very impressed with the results. It removed the brown stains that had developed in the toilet. We do live in a soft water area, so I imagine if you lived in a hard water area and had a lot of limescale (or servere staining), you'd probably want to follow the quantites suggested in the instructions.
I'm very pleased with this product so far and definitely want to investigate its other uses in the future.
