Klean Kanteen Café Cap 2.0

The cafe cap (that came with a 16oz insulated wide bottle, before the TKwide models appeared) was my first KK purchase. If you can only afford one (and they are expensive) get this one! They are worth every penny in my opinion!

The 16oz I found to be just right from a size perspective. It’s the size of a medium Starbucks/ Costa hot chocolate or coffee. Also (important summer tip!) fits two magnum ice creams!

The cap opens and closes with an easy twist and the small opening to drink from makes it feel like you are drinking from a takeaway coffee cup (a slow gentle flow so you don’t burn your tongue!). I have 2 16oz cafe caps now and have bought 2 (Mum and flat mate) as gifts. They all get good use!

My original one (bought 2017) is starting to chip as it had the old paint version (the newer paint is far more robust) but otherwise looks pretty good despite being dropped countless times and abused for years! I would take it on my commute when I was sent to Banff (46 miles each way!) and would leave it in the car all day (5 degrees Celsius and below!) and would have a pleasantly warm (not scalding hot by then) drink of hot squash for my journey home some 8 or 9 hours later! When it was Baltic this was a total blessing. Conversely the KK has spent many hours abandoned in the car in direct sunlight when I was based in the community visiting patients in the summer and although the metal was really hot to touch the contents were lovely and cool!

I feel like the cafe cap is the best all rounder for drinks if you want to have the option of hot drinks. It transports water and ice cream just as easily as hot drinks. I dare say soup would also be fine in it too. If I’m thirsty I do often take the cap off if I’m chugging water as the cap is designed to slowly let out hot liquids which is a little slow if you just need some water. The cafe cap is great for out and about but also at home, especially if you have small children who are liable to knock things over or you want to know that your hot drink isn’t going to be a danger around little ones.

The cafe cap is, as advertised, leak proof. It does however depend on the right putting together of the cap after washing (there are videos to watch and once you’ve got the hang of it this is no problem) I wore through the threads of my first cafe cap (ops!) and wrote to BP customer service to ask if they had spares and they replaced it free of charge. Wonderful customer service as always!

The only thing about the cafe cap being leak proof is that they aren’t idiot proof
