SuperJoe ne fait PAS de câlins par Michael Catchpool

The illustration in this book is absolutely beautiful and full of detail. I also love the representation of loving Black families and a complex Black boy character.
The drawing on each page ties to the next, with little pulls to the imagination of a little one and the story spun. My 5 year old liked the way Super Joe used each item given to him by his mum to help him save the day - love helps us get through tricky times.
My son is a very sensitive 5 year old and loves hugs and snuggles with family so really didn't get the "too old/brave/busy for hugs" thread in the book, it was really lost on him but I think that could be nice for slightly older children who are feeling self conscious about receiving affection from caregivers.
I also liked how Joe's mum took no for an answer, and the opportunity for discussion about how each person can decide who touches them is a very useful one.

We have loved reading all about Joe and his super adventures! His imagination is amazing and my son related to him throughout the story!
The illustrations are great and very fun and engaging, even our almost two year old came over when reading the story and started to roar with the tiger!
It also showed my 7 year old (who is currently to cool for cuddles) that having one with you is absolutely fine and you can never be to big. He then said “daddy still gives his mum a cuddle when he sees her and he’s a grown up”.

My 3 year old was so excited about this book as soo as he saw it. We read it straight away and have read it multiple times since then. The story is wonderful and really engaging, the illustrations are beautiful. My little person kept commenting on them throughout and especially loves the Tiger. I love the theme of this book and at first was worried by the title it may discourage my little one from cuddles (which he loves), but it has not had this effect at all and cuddles are still as frequent as before

What a super cute book! We all loved reading about Joe. The little boy with a huge imagination.

My Super hero loving five year old loved this story especially the action parts when Joe went on adventures and saved the day.

The illustrations are bright, colourful and fun. Allowing the reader into Joes imaginary superhero game!

I love the take home message in this book. It reassures young readers that it’s OK to need a cuddle and a except a little help. We all need a hug sometimes. Know matter how big, brave and old you are even super hero’s!!!

This book is an absolute gem my almost 4 year old is going through a no cuddle no kiss phase currently and won't sit down with us at all the book arrived this morning we sat down reading the story and looking through all the amazing illustrations the story is so beautifully written and has so much background of how mamma is right
