Equal Exchange Organic Ground Coffee - Colombian Excelso 

Well-rounded flavour with notes of dark chocolate, brown sugar, and lemon. This organic and fairtrade Colombian Excelso single-origin coffee is truly a luxury to sip on. Grown by the women farmers of ANEI in Colombia, an association of Colombian indigenous groups who share a belief system based on protecting the Earth. 

ANEI (Association of Indigenous Agroecology Producers) includes 700+ indigenous coffee-producing families. The association was founded by Aurora Izquierdo - one of the first women of her generation to leave the indigenous Arhuaco community of Santa Marta in pursuit of a higher education. Since her return to her community, she has created a sustainable agriculture programme that has dramatically improved the quality of life in the area. 

Making the Invisible Visible - Coffee Grown by Women

Women contribute up to 70% of the labour on coffee farms, yet they often face barriers to co-op membership, training, and decision-making power compared to men. Equal Exchange is committed to closing the gender pay gap by sourcing high-quality coffee beans directly from female farmers in fair trade cooperatives. Every purchase of this ethically sourced coffee helps support and empower women in coffee-growing communities, ensuring fair wages, better opportunities, and a more sustainable future for all.

A Worker-Owned Cooperative

The Equal Exchange co-op has over 100 worker-owners, each with an equal stake and an equal vote in the business. The Equal Exchange worker cooperative is not designed to maximise profits, rather ensure that workers can elect their Board of Directors. They have the right to run for a board position, the right to information, the right to speak their mind, and an equitable distribution of resources. Top-level managers and entry-level employees alike own an identical share and receive an equal share of any profits or losses. Equal exchange also implement initiatives to elevate female grown crops, all to often women's role in coffee growing isn't unacknowledged and unpaid.
