    Bajo Totem Pole

Teach children about the tradition of Totem Poles with this wooden stacking toy. Totem Poles are sculptures carved into large trees and painted with symbols and animal figures. They are created by indigenous Native American cultures in the Pacific Northwest Coast in British Columbia and southeastern Alaska and they are also seen in New Zealand. Totem Poles have many meanings including commemoration, recording family history, representing generosity, wealth and to welcome.

This wooden toy can be stacked in different formations and has different patterns on each side of the blocks. You can use it to teach children about the various symbolic meanings of Totem Poles and the importance of them to other cultures. The animal figures depicted on the blocks are not clearly defined which allows you and your child to change them and talk about the various animals carved into Totem Poles and their meanings. This toy is popular with the education sector but makes a great home teaching aid too.

Ethically made from sustainable solid wood, these wooden blocks are smooth, warm and tactile, and children will enjoy playing with them imaginatively. Stacking the pieces onto the central peg will bring on children's dexterity, hand-eye co-ordination and creativity.

    Suitable from age 2. This toy measures 10cm x 10cm x 30cm and has 13 pieces.

Bajo's beautiful wooden toys have been designed and manufactured in Poland over the last 25 years. These top notch toys are wonderfully tactile and will inspire imaginative play and learning. The manufacturing process is green from start to finish - sustainable wood from beech, birch, sycamore, acacia, cherry, walnut and plum trees is sourced from carefully managed forests in Poland. Skilled crafters transform the wood into toys that are treated with eco, non-toxic paints and oils, and waste wood is turned into fuel briquettes. Bajo toys are great for open-ended play and will be treasured by children for years before being passed on to new generations to be enjoyed all over again.

Beautifully made totem pole

We bought the totem pole to complement our daughters favourite book; A to Z of Canada. She loved the totem pole page and liked to copy the faces. We use this toy with her, aged 2, to talk about the different animals on totem poles and to also talk about facial expressions. But this product has so much more life in it and as she grows we will explore the meaning, customs and traditions around totem poles; it will be a learning experience for us both.

A Brief Bajo Story

A Brief Bajo Story

Established in the tiny village of Kamionna in Poland, at the foot of the mountain bearing the same name, Bajo were making toys at the break of the '90s when the free market was virtually non-existent in Poland. Bajo produce toys that can be made without the need for specialised skills, in order to employ elderly and disabled individuals, as well as people who find it difficult to compete for work. The toys they make carry notion of solidarity in themselves. In the design process they always focus on the possibilities of reaching out to new people.
