That's me, Jolene! We are a small independent, family run business selling ethically sourced products. Things that are useful, beautiful, fun and free from exploitative labour and unfettered use of resources.
Founded in 2007 we have a huge offering and in depth knowledge of ethical product sourcing. We're here to serve you! Offering the best choice of quality, sustainable fair trade products you'll love and always the very best service!
Our Story So Far....
2007 - I had a dream of opening a fair trade shop. I wanted it to be fun and exciting, I wanted people to love the products not just on their fair trade credentials. Peter (my husband), and I put our heads together and set up an online shop selling ethically sourced toys and clothes for children. Our stock room was boxes under the bed, our kitchen table doubled as a packing table, I ran to the post office with babes in arms excited to post out our orders.
2008 - We moved our fledgling business into a shop in Porthmadog. It soon became clear it was a warehouse we really needed.
2010-2019 - One warehouse, then a bigger warehouse, then two, then three, then 8 shipping containers for extra storage. It was at this point we were told we'd need to leave the area to accommodate our little business. But we were committed to staying in the North Wales area, we were proud of the employment we'd created here!
2019 - A new home for Babipur was found in Eryri. We moved into our current home Ty Gelert in Porthmadog. Right from the start we believed in creating jobs for local people here in Porthmadog.
2021-2023 - Brexit and Covid created waves for small businesses like us, our team have pulled together to overcome these challenges and come out stronger. Trading with our friends and customers in the EU is definitely more challenging but we have implemented smooth customs procedures to make things easier for everyone and we're pleased to see our EU customers returning as trust grows.
2024 - Renewed drive, focus and a new website. Our aim has always been to reach a wide audience with fair trade and ethical products and that commitment remains the same today. With so many companies now making ethical claims it can be hard to cut through the greenwashing. Here at Babipur we're steadfastly committed to lifting the voices of the true ethical pioneers who have ethics, sustainability and inclusivity at the heart of what they do. We're excited to be expanding our brand offering, seeking out the very best products for you and your family from fair trade and ethically motivated producers. We even have new products made by refugees which we can't wait to show you later this year. Our website now has a host of features making ethical shopping even easier, we hope you love it!
Our Mission
Fair Trade, If trade isn’t fair then it’s exploitation. Ensuring traceable fair trade standards throughout supply chains is at our core. Sadly exploitation of labour is still a huge problem that is easy for large companies to turn a blind eye to.
Sustainability, products that are made with responsible use of our earth’s resources. From raw materials to end of life. Quality is also important, the longer our goods last the less that need to be produced.
Working with good people, we work with some amazing companies doing amazing things, we love to learn about them and tell their stories. When people run a business with ethics as a focus there’s often so many inspiring things that go on behind the scenes.
