Kraul Block & Tackle Pulley Kit

£26.95

Kraul Block & Tackle Pulley Kit - Kids STEM Science

Discover how weights and mechanics work with the Block & Tackle Pulley Kit from Kraul.

The ancient mechanics of the block and tackle allow you to exchange force for distance through a system of ropes and pulleys. They are used for many everyday functions to hoist heavy loads, including in construction for lifting heavy materials, in elevators and the rigging on a sailing boat. A single-wheel pulley allows you to lift a load while pulling down on the rope, changing the direction of the force. Add a second wheel to split the weight, allowing you to lift the same load but with half the force - clever stuff!

The Kraul Block & Tackle Kit includes:

  • 4 wheels (2 x 4cm diameter, 2 x 5cm diameter)
  • 4 x 14.8cm wooden sections with double holes
  • 4 x 10cm wooden sections with a single hole
  • 8 x wooden pegs (3cm long)
  • 20m hemp string
  • 4 x wingnuts and 4 x bolts
  • Instruction booklet

The Kraul Block & Tackle Kit is an open-ended learning toy that invites children to explore different combinations of hoists and pulleys, learning about forces and physics while developing problem-solving skills. Take it out into the garden or park to explore science through play. A detailed booklet with experiments is included, inspiring hands-on science exploration.

This Block & Tackle Pulley Kit will be enjoyed by children exploring the trajectory schema, developing an understanding of cause-and-effect relationships by learning about how objects and themselves move. This type of play is part of natural child development and supports learning through movement and repetition.

This STEM science kit carries the Spiel Gut mark, a respected German recognition for toys that are well designed, educational and fun. Made in Germany by Kraul, this pulley kit is part of a range of thoughtful science toys that bring natural forces to life through real-world exploration and play.

Kraul is a family owned business dedicated to encouraging children to learn about science and nature through experiment and play. Many of Kraul’s science and STEM kits have been inspired by Walter Kraul’s experience as a Waldorf teacher at the Rudolf Steiner School in Munich, and later developed by his son Christoph, a meteorologist and physicist. Kraul toys carry the Spiel Gut® mark and work with two workshops that involve people with disabilities in the manufacturing of these toys.
