Taking Time by Jo Loring-Fisher

This is has been an absolute joy to read, each page showing us the beauty of small moments around the world. We love the illustrations, talking about each child and their surroundings- reminding us what a magical world we live in.

Taking Time is a great book to help children with self regulation, showing them ways to pause in small, beautifully simple ways. We spent a long time looking at the map on the front page and were really pleased to find the activity page at the end. I really love how Jo Loring-Fisher creates moments of wonder at the smallest things, my personal favourite is “Eyes that are so kind” cherishing friends and family.

Such a wonderfully written and illustrated book.

We were able to create talking points on each page about how it's important to slow down and take time to enjoy the things around us.

Evie loved that it showed different people all over the world enjoying different things and it sparked her to want to learn more about other countries and cultures.

What a beautiful poem! This book is a wonderful way to inspire a moment or two of mindfulness in children of all ages. Mindfulness, and indeed ‘taking time’ to watch and listen to the world around is so important, and this poem explores a few of little ways that we can find moments of peace in the every day. The examples given throughout the poem are things that are easy for children to relate to and do themselves, which I love.

The illustrations throughout the book particularly captivated me and my young twins. They were both totally enthralled by the gorgeous style and the colours, and I absolutely love how so many different cultures have been represented. It was a real thrill being able to see a child in snowy Russia taking a moment to marvel at a falling snowflake on one page, and another child listening carefully to the sounds of the sea in Tanzania on another – each page takes the reader on a journey to a different part of the world!

I think every single page of the book is perfect for inspiring discussion and play surrounding geography, culture, and mindfulness. If that wasn’t enough, there’s a fun activity on the last page too!

This is such a beautifully illustrated and worded book! The message is gentle but clear in encouraging the reader to practise mindfulness and appreciate the beauty all around us. I love that it shows people from various countries and cultures. While the pictures are inspired by a particular place and/or way of life, we can easily apply it to our daily living here too!

Wow... I mean just wow. What a beautiful, mindful and diverse book. I love the gorgeous illustrations and how they really draw little people into the detail. The words / poem itself is gorgeous, just the right amount to allow little people to imagine the rest. My little people love this book and we keep coming back to it, learning about the world as we go. We've started to use it in conjunction with the World Map Wonder Cloth which works so well.

I feel this is a must in any little persons book collection. Just love it!
